Artist's Description
"Dionysus" began as a sketch that was created while the artist was in Japan in 2013. Each night as he was falling asleep, Roger would have pen and sketch pad in hand, and (with no intention involved) simply begin to draw random curved lines - none of them connecting. But as more curved lines made their way to the page, Roger could see an image trying to come through. And so he would continue until he felt the image had appeared in the way that it wanted to - and then fall into a deep sleep. There is an entire series of sketches, but Dionysus is one of the first to make it to canvas. The original hangs in the artist's home, but we are pleased to make prints available.
Dionysus is known as the god of fertility of nature, and later as the god of wine who loosens inhibitions and inspires creativity in music and poetry.
